The last time I saw Loren she was a sophomore. Back then she was super cute, had a ton of energy, plenty of spunk, and a bit of a ‘tude – the endearing kind. I loved her for all of these things.
For her senior session, we met first at a farm. As she got out of her car, it was immediately clear that my Loren had gotten older. Everything was still there – the spunk, the energy, that quick laugh, and a spark of ‘tude that I hope she never loses – but it was all a touch different, as though all her little quirks had grown with her. There’s a higher level of maturity that has planted itself into her personality. Her cuteness has evolved into loveliness. And she’s driving a car!
“I’m nicer now, Frau.” Loren tells me as I take this photo.
“You were always nice!” I reply.
Loren gives me a look like I’m insane.
“Well, you were always nice to me.” I say.
“Yeah, to you!” She laughs.
Regardless of what Loren thinks, she has always had a wonderful personality and still has one now. I was so glad she made the trip to see me because, if nothing else, it’s awesome to hang out with an awesome person, and Loren is definitely an awesome person. I asked her some questions so that I could better introduce her to my readers. Here is the lovely Loren, a soon-to-be high school grad, in her own words :)
Favorite ice cream flavor: Mint Chocolate Chip
Favorite animal: I have multiple favorite animals but I love elephants. Honestly my dog is my best friend. I love her more than anything in this entire world so I guess dogs are my favorite animal because of her.
Favorite TV Show: Teen Wolf and Criminal Minds
Favorite Bands or Musicians: Fall Out Boy and Chase Rice and Keith Urban. I can’t really pick my #1 band or singer but generally my go-to genre is country.
Favorite school subjects: I don’t actually have a favorite subject in school but I have talents in English and math. I enjoy writing but not about forced subjects. If I have a lot on my mind I tend to puke out all my thoughts into a story, kind of, and they sometimes come out really cool.
Favorite Holiday: This has to be Christmas because I love the feeling of happiness in the air and I love the decorations. The fact that eggnog is generally only sold during Christmas season sucks because it’s one of my favorite drinks ever.
What you like to do in your spare time: I used to play water polo but I don’t anymore because of a shoulder injury. I loved it.
Currently, when I have extra time, I like to go on road trips with friends and family. If I were given a coupe of days to do whatever I wanted, I would get a couple of my friends together to just drive out to somewhere in the middle of nowhere, as far away as I can in the time given, and just hang out together. I just enjoy being in the company of friends and people I care about.
What do you like most about being a senior? I enjoy how much more freedom I’m given compared to how little I used to be given.
What do you want to do after you graduate? I’m not sure which college I want to apply to quite yet but I know I’m going to go to community college first and then transfer to another college of my choice. I want to study criminology and hopefully become an intelligence analyst and maybe even be in the CIA or FBI.
Loren, it was so much fun to see you again. You’re beautiful, you’re funny, you have an infectious laugh, and you’re so smart. I know you can do and be anything you want and I hope you get exactly that. Enjoy your last year, your extra freedom, and this last bit of childhood as much as you can. I hope to see you again soon and until then, the best of luck in your future! Congrats, girl!
